"The far reaches of the Sahara have nurtured some fantastic music in recent years. Often suggesting a convergences of John Lee Hooker and West Africa, those sounds have been lovingly transplanted to Wisconsin by the Madison-Milwaukee band Mali Blues. Their live CD, recorded earlier this year at Club Garibaldi captures the hypnotic pulse of this ancient-modern music. In the syncopated snap of strings, simmering low burn electric guitars, and primal, propulsive rhythms. Nothing except the English language "thank you for coming out" between songs reveals that this session wasn't recorded somewhere near Timbuktu."
Dave Luhrssen Shepherd Express Milwaukee Nov. 2012
Recorded at Club Garibaldi's In Bay View, Wisconsin in January 2012. Mastered at Independent Studios in Milwaukee, WI. All LIVE, no overdubs.
Tani Diakite is from Wassalou, MALI.
Produced with GREAT LOVE by KT Rusch
We dedicate this music to the People of MALI, especially the women and children who are affected by recent political upheaval and chaos. We support all who wish to end the use of children and teens as paid mercenary soldiers. We send regards to excellent Malian musicians in the chaotic regions who must now suppress their art because of fundamentalist views and autocratic power struggles.
We also dedicate to the loving memory of the Mother of Tani Diakite who passed away in Fall, 2012.
Thank you for supporting our music, Malian Music and The ARTS.
With deep regard,
Tani and KT and Mali Blues
